The Carriage House

Restored over a period of two years, the carriage house is south facing and forms part of the large front garden courtyard at Chateau Le Mont Epinguet.

The accommodation consists of: 5 large bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, hall, 60sqm. living room with Valognes stone fireplace, and a spacious, unusual, dome-shaped kitchen.

The building dates from 1751 when the chateau was commissioned by a French count, in a 2,000 hectare estate - one of many chateau in the area - at a time the wealthiest region in France outside Paris.

In the restoration of the property a great deal of emphasis has been placed on light, space and the enhancement of the natural and historic aspects of the building. Giant oak beams, Douglas redwood floors, 18th Century local stone fireplaces, plastered domed ceiling in the kitchen and 5 sets of French windows - one of which leads onto a balcony from the master bedroom - are some of the features.

The house is centrally heated and has a sunny garden and terrace with BBQ. Furnishings are also in keeping where possible - the beds being mainly 18th Century copies with comfortable mattresses, and the bathrooms include roll-top baths reflecting a comfort and opulance of a bygone age.

We hope the carriage house will ensure that you have a memorable holiday in a beautiful base from which to enjoy the numerous pleasures of this region. This gite can sleep up to 12 persons in 4 double rooms (one with bunk beds) and one twin room.

The cost of a weekly let is from £500. We request that the carriage house is left the way you found it - unless you ask us to clean it, for which we charge £40.

Should you wish to reserve please send a £100 deposit. We retain this deposit against cancellation and damage, and request a full 6 weeks before your arrival date.
